Participate in WaterFire
WaterFire is based on a straightforward idea and produces an incredibly captivating artistic experience. More than 80 braziers (portable heaters) are lit atop the Woonasquatucket and Providence rivers along a length between two city parks on particular evenings throughout the year to create a flame show floating on water. Partial lighting displays, which usually only illuminate a portion of the river, are just as impressive to view as the whole show. This breathtaking display of the elements starts just after sunset and lasts until just before midnight. The WaterFire Arts Center, which is situated in Providence's Valley district, members put on demonstrations, which are open to the general public.
Recent attendees cite WaterFire as a singular sensory encounter that is suitable for a range of ages and a distinctive way to discover Providence. Live music and other events occasionally overlap with the flames, so you may plan appropriately. Fire typically beckons you to sit and be entranced, but fire marshal laws forbid folding chairs on the riverwalks.
