Philadelphia Museum of Art
Not every organization can say that it has connections to Sylvester Stallone and Marcel Duchamp, but Philadelphia Museum of Art can. Since the entrance's debut in the film that established Stallone's career, "Rocky," thousands of visitors come each year merely to take pictures of it. Two of Duchamp's enigmatic masterpieces, "The Large Glass" and "Étant donnés," which one might compare to the Mona Lisa and Sistine Ceiling of 20th-century Conceptual Art, respectively, are on display in the museum. The museum is also well-known for its other collections, which are equally comprehensive in scope to those of The Met in New York. Don't miss "Rodin's Hands" and "Sean Scully: The Shape of Ideas" through July 31.
Their collection is a reflection of their own history as well as the interests of several generations of Philadelphia curators and collectors. Eight curatorial divisions make up the museum collection: American art, contemporary art, costume and textiles, East Asian art, European decorative arts and sculpture, European painting, prints, drawings, and photographs, and South Asian art.
