Port Djibouti

One of the qualities of Port Djibouti, other than its exotic name, is its link to Ethiopia by rail. It also has the added advantage of being connected to over 40 international companies by being the main transit for imports and exports. It is strategically located at the crossroads of one of the world's busiest sea routes connecting Europe, the Far East, the Horn of Africa and the Persian Gulf. The port not only serves as a major refueling and transshipment center but also serves as a major maritime gateway for imports and exports from neighboring Ethiopia.

Port Djibouti is known for being the most efficient port in the trading business and is busy year-round. Traders and importers often have to book shipments in advance if they want to use Port Djibouti. About 2500 ships pass through the port every day and make a stopover. Djibouti's economy is highly dependent on the strategic location of its ports. That's because about a third of the world's daily ships pass through the northeastern edge of Africa. The port has been at the center of a lawsuit between port operator DP World and the Djibouti government since the DP World business license was revoked by a presidential decree in 2018.
