Located in Western Australia close to Port Hedland, Dampier is a major industrial port in the Pilbara region of northwestern Western Australia. Near the town of Karratha and Port Walcott. Port Dampier is part of the Dampierre Archipelago and is primarily a port for the export of iron ore, LNG, and salt from the Rio Tinto mine. The port serves the petrochemical, salt, iron ore, and natural gas export industries.
Port Dampier is actually Australia's second-largest port as it merged with Port Hedland to form the Pilbara Ports Authority, along with several other ports. In particular, this port is mainly responsible for the transshipment of pig iron cargo.Rio Tinto exports large quantities of iron ore, particularly Pilbara blends, through its ports and announced plans to expand capacity in September 2010. As of the 2011 census, Dampir has a population of 1,341.
