Scottish Highlands
While the Scottish Highlands are most renowned for Loch Ness sightings, it is also a remote northern region with excellent chances of seeing the northern lights.
Because Scotland is on the same latitude as Alaskan and Scandinavian cities with ideal northern sites for the lights, viewing is excellent in the Highlands, despite being less popular than in other places. The northern lights are known as "Mirrie Dancers" in Scotland, and the remote Highlands provide minimal light pollution and dark sky for excellent viewing. Cairngorms National Park, Scotland's largest national park, is one of the greatest spots in the country to see the northern lights. Galloway Forest Park is another popular destination, as it is Scotland's only designated Dark Sky Park. Shetland, Angus, Lewis, and Aberdeenshire are all excellent viewing places.
