Sharif University of Technology
Sharif University of Technology, established in 1966, is one of Iran's largest engineering colleges. When it was founded, the institution had only 54 teaching members and 412 students. It now boasts a student body of almost 10,000 people. SUT, which is located in Tehran, Iran's capital, was previously known as the Aryamehr University of Industry before being renamed after former student Majid Sharif Vaghefi, who was assassinated in 1975.
The Sharif University of Technology, which is known in Iran as one of the most famous higher education institutions, offers a variety of graduate and postgraduate degrees in its 15 departments, and it does not only offer engineering courses. Its Department of Philosophy of Science, School of Management and Economics, and Department of Languages and Linguistics are among its non-engineering schools.
Each department has its own laboratories, library, and workshops, and students can choose to supplement their technical studies with humanities and social sciences courses. Undergraduate admission to Sharif University of Technology is competitive. Only those who score in the top 5% of Iran's national entrance exams, administered by the country's Ministry of Culture and Higher Education, are eligible to enroll.
Among SUT's notable alumni are Ali Larijani, the Iranian parliament's speaker; pianist Peyman Yazdanian; international football's all-time leading goalscorer Ali Daei; and chess grandmaster Elshan Moradi.
