Shinagawa International School
Founded in 2007, Shinagawa International School (SIS) initially located within the Jingumae Public Elementary School Campus in Shibuya-ku, later moving to its current campus near Shinagawa Seaside Station in Shinagawa, Tokyo, by the end of June 2018.
One of SIS's key strengths is its diverse and vibrant school community, comprising members from over 40 different nationalities. This diversity creates a rich and multicultural environment, fostering a great mix of experiences and cultures.
As an IB DP Candidate School and an authorized MYP school, SIS follows the MYP/DP curriculum framework, building upon the foundation laid during the IB Primary Years Programme. This allows students to enhance their skills, knowledge, and attributes acquired during their primary education.
SIS offers a comprehensive education encompassing the five essential elements of the IB program: Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, Conceptual Understanding, and Action. The school's mission emphasizes the importance of acquiring knowledge, developing skills, and fostering positive attitudes and attributes that contribute to the growth of inspired and lifelong learners.
At SIS, students' actions are guided by their vision statement, encouraging them to become global learners who actively contribute to world peace. Japanese lessons are incorporated into the timetable, allowing students to learn the language through Kokugo (Japanese as a Native Language) or JAL (Japanese as an Additional Language) textbooks based on their abilities.
SIS prides itself on being a community of learners, fortunate to have teachers and students from diverse backgrounds worldwide. This multicultural environment is celebrated not only through regular class activities but also through the annual International Children's Festival hosted by the school.
