Since U Been Gone
Kelly Clarkson of the United States recorded the song "Since U Been Gone" for her second studio album, Breakaway (2004). The song, which Max Martin and Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald wrote and produced, was made available as the first single from Breakaway two weeks before the album's official release.
It is a power-pop power ballad with an upbeat pop-rock beat that incorporates electronic elements and a blend of soft and loud pop-rock. Pink was in mind when Martin first composed "Since U Been Gone," but she declined. Hilary Duff was later handed the song, but she turned it down since she couldn't sing the higher notes. After Clive Davis persuaded the songwriters to give Clarkson the song, it was finally given to her. After recognizing that the demo had a blatantly pop vibe, Clarkson made the decision to add stronger guitars and harder percussion to the tune. The song's lyrics are written from the perspective of a lady, who expresses her relief at the end of her problematic relationship.
