Sweet Dreams
The British new wave band Eurythmics is known for their song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). It serves as the album's title track and was made available as the fourth and album's last single in early 1983. The track became their breakthrough success, making the duo well-known internationally. The song, which was their first single to be published in the US, was helped by its music video to reach number two on the UK Singles Chart and number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.
According to the BBC, Annie Lennox's "strong androgynous image" was the aspect of her music video that "broke the mould for female pop singers," as she appeared with orange-cropped hair and a man's business suit.
The duo's earlier single, "Love Is a Stranger," was re-released after the song's success and also became a global hit. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" was listed as the 356th greatest song in Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time edition from 2003. The song was admitted to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2020. Since 1982, Eurythmics have included the song in each of their live performances, and Lennox frequently performs it while out on solo tours.
