South African Breweries
A major South African brewery, South African Breweries (or The South African Breweries Limited, or simply SAB) is headquartered in Johannesburg. Until its sale to Anheuser-Busch InBev on October 10, 2016, it was wholly owned by SABMiller. South African Breweries is a wholly owned subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV. In 1895, South African Breweries was founded as Castle Brewery to meet the needs of a growing number of Johannesburg-area miners and prospectors.
One of South Africa's most admired companies, South African Breweries is the country's largest brewer. With a total yearly brewing capacity of 3.1 billion liters, the company operates 7 breweries and 42 depots in South Africa. Castle Lager, Hansa Pilsener, and Carling Black Label are just a few of the time-honored brands in the company's beer portfolio. Two years later, in 1896, it was the first industrial company to be listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, and the year after that, in 1898, it was the first to be listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The company's culture and values are unified by the Dream-People-Culture platform, which is based on the 10 Principles and serves as the company's guiding philosophy. Despite having offices in many different countries with varying customs, the company operates as a unified whole by focusing on putting the appropriate people in the right roles at all times. As a result of many initiatives aimed at enhancing local autonomy and creating new employment opportunities, South African Breweries is pleased with its contribution to the township's economic revival.
