St. Basil’s Cathedral- Red Square, Moscow, Russia

The Basilica of Vasily the Bless, commonly known as Saint Basil's Cathedral, is an Orthodox church in Moscow's Red Square, and one of Russia's most popular cultural icons. The building, now a museum, is officially known as the Praying Church of Saints Theotokos on Moat, or Pokrovsky Cathedral. It was built between 1555 and 1561 by order of Ivan the Terrible and commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. It was the city's tallest building until the Ivan the Great Bell Tower was completed in 1600.

Consisting of 10 different interconnected churches,Saint Basil proudly presents a wealth of unique and unusual architecture, with bright colors and swirling patterns wherever you look. Although it is famous for its distinctive exterior, the inside is just as magical as the icons and murals that cover every surface. Protected in 1929 by the Soviets who were actually considering tearing it down, St. Basil is now an important symbol of the country.
