Subway is an American fast food restaurant brand that specializes in submarine sandwiches (subs), wraps, salads, and beverages. Subway was founded in 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, by 17-year-old Fred DeLuca and financed by Peter Buck as Pete's Super Submarines. The restaurant was renamed Subway two years later, and in 1974, a franchise operation began with the launch of a second facility in Wallingford, Connecticut. It has since expanded into a global franchise.

Subway provides a multitude of topping options, allowing consumers to personalize their sandwiches with their favorite ingredients. Subway's long-running slogan "Eat Fresh" alludes to the fresh ingredients used in its sandwiches.

Subway is the largest restaurant chain in the United States, with over 23,000 locations. Subway originated in 1965, when Fred DeLuca, a college student in need of funds, borrowed $1,000 from a family friend to open a restaurant. A year later, they created a second site and continued to grow rapidly.

Subway has locations in over 100 countries, in addition to its large presence in the United States. It is known for providing submarine sandwiches made with fresh meats, cheeses, and vegetables instead of greasy burgers and fried foods, making it a healthier fast food option.
