The English College in Prague
The English College in Prague is one of the best British schools in Prague. This co-educational, selective Czech-British grammar school offers students, ages 13 to 19, an academic education in the English language. Students from Czech schools who have completed the 7th grade are admitted to the 6-year ECP grammar school. It is a part of the Conference of Headmasters and Headmistresses.
There are about 370 students at the college, about 70% of whom are Czech and 30% of whom are international students from places like Eastern Asia, Eastern Europe, and Russia.
The college is located next to a shopping center with a food court and at the Vysočanská metro station. Specialized science labs, a music and art room, a computer center, a well-stocked library, a multipurpose hall, and an outdoor space suitable for all weather conditions are all housed in the school buildings.
The curriculum of the English College in Prague includes the International Baccalaureate (IB) and IGCSE, two of the top, globally recognized educational programs. The students who complete the IB Diploma in the sixth year are also granted the Czech Maturita.
This is a legal document proving they have completed their secondary education in the Czech Republic and enables them to apply to universities in that country. The Maturita includes Czech language content, but non-Czech speakers can also choose an alternative version of the program without Czech.
Students take a variety of exams at the end of Year 4, including our internal exams and language exams based on the Common European Framework. To better prepare students for success at the IB Diploma level and beyond, the school has created a brand-new pre-IB program for Years 3 and 4. In most subjects, this has taken the place of the IGCSE curricula; however, external exams are still required for Modern Foreign Languages, English, and Mathematics.
Every student in Year 6 is registered for the Diploma. The English College is unique in Prague because, in addition to offering the IB Diploma, it also trains students for the Czech State Maturita exam. This gives students who choose this option access to universities both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
