The Princess Diaries
The Princess Diaries is a 2001 American coming-of-age comedy film directed by Garry Marshall and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The film, based on Meg Cabot's 2000 young adult novel of the same name, was written by Gina Wendkos and stars Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, with Héctor Elizondo, Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore, Caroline Goodall, and Robert Schwartzman rounding out the supporting ensemble.
The story follows Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway), a meek American adolescent who discovers she is the heir to a European kingdom's throne. Mia must decide whether to seize the throne she has inherited or relinquish her position forever under the guidance of her estranged grandmother (Andrews), the kingdom's reigning queen. Julie Andrews as Clarisse Renaldi, Mia's grandmother and reigning Queen of Genovia. Andrews offers many valuable, poetic words of wisdom throughout the movie. She’s the voice of reason, and she always reminds Mia that she should never give up.
