The Silent Sea (2021)

The Silent Sea is a 2021 South Korean streaming television series starring Bae Doona, Gong Yoo and Lee Joon. Director Choi Hang-yong created the series of eight episodes as an adaptation of his 2014 short film, The Sea of Tranquility, with the help of writer Park Eun-kyo. It is available on Netflix on December 24, 2021. The title The Silent Sea is a reference to the moon's Sea of Tranquility; the plot depicts a crewed expedition to gather samples from a lunar research outpost. It is mostly science fiction, but it also has elements of thriller and mystery. It garnered mostly good feedback from critics and audiences.

Set in the future, when desertification has produced a global shortage of water and food. Yoon Jae is a space agency soldier. He gets chosen to fly to the moon with a crew that includes Ji An. A scientist volunteers to help rescue unusual materials from an abandoned lunar space station where an accident killed everyone, including her sister. On the space station, the team is attacked by a vicious superhuman female who is resistant to the effects of lunar water. Meanwhile, they must struggle with the possibility that some members of their own party would betray them.
