Train to Busan (2016)
Train to Busan is a 2016 South Korean action horror film directed by Yeon Sang-ho and starring Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an, Choi Woo-shik, Ahn So-hee, and Kim Eui-sung. The film mostly takes place on a high-speed train from Seoul to Busan as a zombie apocalypse suddenly breaks out in the country and threatens the safety of the passengers. Seok Woo, his estranged daughter Soo An, and other passengers become trapped on a KTX train (high-speed train) heading from Seoul to Busan during a disastrous virus outbreak in South Korea.
On May 13, 2016, the film debuted in the Midnight Screenings section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. On August 7, the film broke the audience record of over 10 million theatergoers, becoming the first Korean film of 2016. Gong Yoo and Jung Yu-mi, who both appeared in the 2011 film The Crucible, reunite in the film. Peninsula, the sequel, was published in South Korea on July 15, 2020.
