Travelling during Ramadan
If you're traveling during Ramadan (which people strongly advise against), you should be prepared. You are not allowed to eat or drink in public during the day until the evening prayers at dusk. The majority of restaurants are closed (or only deliver). Because loud music, dancing, and other forms of entertainment are restricted throughout the month, bars are normally closed. Most establishments serve alcohol after sunset prayers, but there is no music or celebrations. During this time, you are also required to dress conservatively.
In addition to Ramadan, Muslims worship five times a day, and the eerie, lyrical call to prayer can be heard from mosques nearby. Non-Muslims are not expected to do anything but listen and enjoy. During prayer times, smaller shops may close.
