University of Ilorin
The University of Ilorin is a federally funded university in Ilorin, Nigeria's westernmost city. In 1975, a Federal Military Government law established seven higher education institutes. The decree was issued to carry out Nigeria's Third National Development Plan's educational directives, which aimed to provide opportunities for Nigerians interested in pursuing higher education. One of Nigeria's most prestigious universities is the University of Ilorin.
UNILORIN, as it is known, admitted its first 200 students on October 23, 1976, and academic work began on October 25, 1976. The University began on a portion of the temporary campus of the Kwara State Polytechnic. The Faculties of Art, Science, Education, Engineering, Business, Social Science, and Basic Clinic Sciences all have their academic programs on this site.
UNILORIN was the first Nigerian university to be named among the top 20 universities in Africa in 2014. In Africa, he was ranked 20th, and in the world, he was placed 1824th. In the same year, the University began the cultivation of a 10,000-hectare oil palm plantation, which would eventually serve as a source of foreign cash.
Between 2012 and 2016, the JAMB indicated that UNILORIN had the most candidates and was one of Nigeria's leading universities.
