Veterinary medicine encompasses a wide range of life sciences, from animal medicine to the biology of mammals and higher vertebrates. In the Department of Veterinary Medicine at University of Tokyo, the most advanced research is conducted at the molecular, cellular and in vivo levels to fully understand the life processes of both normal and diseased animals.
At University of Tokyo, Veterinary medicine has two aspects of science. It is a basic science that understands the basic mechanisms of biological phenomena and an applied science that meets the social needs to maintain and improve human well-being and livestock productivity. The department works with the Veterinary Center located on the Yayoi campus. The center is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art medical equipment and plays an important role as a leading veterinary hospital in its field.
