Valencia (Spain)
Valencia Port is on the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula and is an important part of the Mediterranean Corridor in the trans-European transport network. It is the fifth-busiest port in Europe and the busiest port in the Mediterranean. In 2018, it outlined plans to open a new terminal with automation and access to larger vessels. As of 2019, the annual cargo volume is about 80 million tons (long ton 80 million tons, short ton 80 million tons), 5.4 million TEU, the number one in Spain and the second in the Mediterranean Basin (after Piraeus Port) to the port of Algeciras.
Valencia Port is also an important employer in the region, with more than 15,000 employees servicing more than 7,500 vessels annually. Thanks to its two satellite ports, Sagunto and Gandia, it serves a 350 km economic zone that accounts for more than 50% of the country's GDP.
