Varoulko restaurant first opened its doors in Piraeus in 1987. Lefteris Lazarou invented a new style of seafood cookery to go along with it. Lazarou was the first chef in Greece to prepare a seafood meal at a fine dining establishment and to introduce the public to previously unknown and underappreciated fish species. Lazarou has garnered numerous distinctions throughout the years, including the first Michelin star granted to a chef cooking Greek food in 2002. Since then, Lazarou has kept his star. Lefteris Lazarou sailed returned to his home neighborhood after a decade ashore. Varoulko Seaside in Mikrolimano, Piraeus, is now open both throughout the day and at night.
