Washington, D.C.
One of the largest and most diverse Christmas markets in the country's capital includes over 75 vendors who represent numerous unique national and local cultural groups. Among them are numerous minorities-owned small local businesses from the Made in DC program. Visitors to the market will also find a wide variety of food vendors, including those selling traditional German baked goods, southern BBQ, Indian cuisine, and South American specialties.
Starting Thanksgiving weekend and running until December 23, the market is held in the Chinatown neighborhood next to the National Portrait Gallery every day from noon to 8 p.m. This fair is a good spot to do holiday shopping offering a variety of handcrafted crafts and artwork. Browse for clothing, art, accessories, jewelry, pottery, etc. The market also features live shows of holiday music from around the globe. While you're there, make sure to stroll a few blocks south to see the White House and National Mall all out for the holidays. Because this market is outside, be sure to dress warmly. Listen to Christmas songs as you choose the ideal holiday gift and enjoy a hot cup of mulled cider or some German gingerbread.
