Along with pumpkins, watermelons are considered the largest fruits in the world, when grown properly each watermelon can weigh up to several hundred pounds. According to the world record book, the largest watermelon ever grown was one of ten giant fruit in 1990 in Arrington, Tennessee, by Mr. Bill Carson and weighing 262 pounds (118.7 kg). Then, The Bright family, from Hope County, Arkansas, produced a 200-pound fruit in 1979 and a 260 pounds one in 1985. In 2013, Chris Kent from the USA also grew the heaviest watermelon that weighed 350.5 pounds.


Watermelon
is a popular fruit sold in stores and supermarkets around the world. Watermelons also come in different sizes depending on the commercial purpose of the farmer to breed suitable watermelon varieties. In addition, watermelons are also bred specifically for fruit competitions at major and local agricultural fairs. In particular, the most popular contest held annually in Hope, Arkansas is called Hope Watermelon Festival. Here, local growers enter their watermelon in a competition to establish the World Guinness record.
