In the 1980s, kateboarding became a trend, and the sport has grown in popularity ever since. While novices may be grateful for their first skateboard, more ... read more...

  1. The world's most expensive skateboard was also on display during the Tony Hawk fundraiser event. Jamie Thomas and Bob Dylan collaborated on the most expensive skateboard ever made. Jamie Thomas autographed the board, which includes handwritten lyrics from Bob Dylan's classic song "Blowin' In The Wind." The skateboard was sold for $38,425, making it the most expensive and touted skateboard ever sold.

The deck was one of several such items up for sale through Boards+Bands, a fundraiser organized by Grammy Award-winning artist Ben Harper to assist the Tony Hawk Foundation to build free public skateparks in low-income communities. The foundation receives 100% of the revenues from the eBay-hosted sale. The auction was the brainchild of musician Ben Harper, who wanted to bring together skaters and musicians to support the Tony Hawk Foundation's efforts to establish public skateparks in low-income communities around the country. Seven professional skaters donated their boards to the auction, raising over $126,000 for the Foundation.

  2. This set of four skateboards, like the Beatles Blackbird Board above, was sold at a Tony Hawk auction to generate money to establish skateparks in underserved parts of the United States. The Beastie Boys' Bucky Lasek and Adam Yauch collaborated to develop the Four Duck Set.

Bucky Lasek's personal ridden skateboard deck, plus three additional new skateboards, were created in collaboration with Adam Yauch of the GRAMMY Award-winning Beastie Boys to create this one-of-a-kind artifact—Bucky Lasek's favorite song lyric ("Bodhisattva Vow") written on them by Adam Yauch himself. The three new decks each include one verse from the Beastie Boys' "Bodhisattva Vow," with illustrations by Yauch on the deck that Lasek rode. Bucky Lasek's "Free Tibet" pro model is a 7-ply maple laminate Element brand board. It's customized with Lasek's unique decal outfit and shows all of the wear and tear that a professional player would. Yauch finished writing the words of "Bodhisattva Vow" on the boards in March 2012, only weeks before his death in May. The set of boards sold for £35,000, resulting in a skatepark project in Adam Yauch's hometown of New York City.

  3. On eBay, a Tony Hawk skateboard with handwritten Beatles "Blackbird" lyrics added by Paul McCartney sold for $27,116 to benefit charity. Hawk's customized decals were on the heavily-used skateboard during his first pro skate demo in Mumbai, India, in 2011. The board has handwritten Beatles' "Blackbird" lyrics, which Paul McCartney subsequently added and signed.

Hawk described why he chose McCartney's "Blackbird" in the eBay ad, saying, "I simply felt why not go for broke and go to the top?" It was ecstatic since it's one of his few songs with all of the words fitting on the board, plus it's one he created himself. The Tony Hawk Foundation joined up with great musicians (Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Adam Yauch, Ben Harper, and others) to generate cash for free public skating in low-income regions, which was facilitated on eBay by AuctionCause.

  4. The Supreme Mundi was designed by Adrian Wilson, a British artist, to criticize the art business. Supreme is a skateboarding brand known for being costly only to be expensive. The board is just a wooden artist's palette with wheels that have a Supreme emblem that is a rip-off. This skateboard is really a painted artist's palette that was turned into a skateboard by the firm itself. It nevertheless sold for $20,000, demonstrating that fools are willing to spend a lot of money for the proper branding.

The board itself doesn't appear to be large enough to skate on, which is hilarious given that Supreme began as a skate brand for New York City's stylish kids. People still buy it, despite how awful it is because there are a lot of people willing to pay the top price for this design right now.

On a hardwood artist palette with wheels below, the Supreme Mundi board shows a precise counterfeit rendition of the Supreme insignia. Former gallery owner Jon Satin bought the board on behalf of a private customer described as a "private high-end collector." Supreme has nothing to do with this one-of-a-kind skateboard. Furthermore, despite its appearance, The Supreme Mundi was skated on the Lower East Side sidewalks, demonstrating that it is a completely functional skateboard.

  5. We present one of the most extravagant if not oddest items ever seen in the world of collectibles, and it comes from the action-sports sector. The $15,000 Golden skateboard is here. One of the most expensive skateboards in the world is completely working. Although the 99.999 percent electroplated gold skateboard is completely functioning, it is unlikely that anybody would ride it or even touch it with their own hands. The hefty price tag, which is somewhat more than a 2013 Ford Fiesta, includes a pair of 100-percent cotton archival gloves to prevent the mirrored surface from being smudged.

It may appear to be something that should be put in a showcase, yet it is a completely working skateboard. Nobody has ever taken it for a ride in the park, to our knowledge. In reality, it has a mirrored surface, and the only way it has been handled is using a pair of archival gloves made of 100% cotton to avoid smudging the beautiful finish. This version weighs 9 pounds and is 31.5 inches in length and 8 inches in width, making it heavier than the ordinary skateboard.

  6. This board has one of the deepest cuts in the world, owing to the fact that it was an uncommon board in the 1980s and pays homage to 80s punk culture. Black Flag is still one of the most well-known punk bands, with fans tattooing its insignia on their arms. In terms of craftsmanship, the board is rather straightforward. The fact that it's such a hard-to-find board with a lot of history in Venice Beach skate culture is the true draw here. 1984 Rip City “No Net Ever” Black Flag's worth more than $7,000 in pristine condition.

This collectible skateboard is inspired by the California skate scene. It's a tribute to Black Flag, a hardcore punk band. Raymond Pettibon, guitarist Greg Ginn's brother, created the artwork for the deck. The Rip City version of this board from 1984 is regarded as the rarest, which is why it has fetched such a high price and is one of the most expensive skateboards of all time.

  7. Did you know that both Neiman Marcus and the MoMA Design Store now sell triptych board sets by some of history's most well-known artists? It's real, and they're being offered for anywhere between $200 and $600 each, barely scraping the bottom of our price list. Saint Laurent, on the other hand, takes a playful approach to it. They obtained the rights from the Basquiat estate and created a series of portraits with prints by the artist.

Getting a set of triptych boards is the perfect way to add color and style to your home. They will make a bold statement in any room, whether you choose to display them on the wall or use them as a surface for writing and drawing. These boards come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors so you can find the one that fits best with your decorating style. Since they are one of the most expensive skateboards, you will probably close the glass cabinet for them instead of using them.

  8. To go with its skate-inspired boots, Louis Vuitton has developed a whole skateboard setup. Both skateboards were created by Virgil Abloh, who has been the creative director of menswear at Louis Vuitton since 2018. One board has the brilliant "watercolor" pattern featured in LV's Spring collection, while the other has a stripped-back maple wood finish etched with an allover LV monogram, nodding to his latest work. Both skateboards come with engraved wheels and fasteners, as well as translucent grip tape in a matching monogram design.

The white skating trunk features an all-over Louis Vuitton monogram and is decorated with a bright watercolor pattern. The case's silver hardware is complemented with white leather straps, including a long one to make traveling with the board simpler. The Louis Vuitton White Watercolor Skateboard, which retails for $2,660 USD, is one of those you'll regret skating, and best to keep it as a decoration. This board has the LV emblem, which most people associate with the company, as well as a springtime watercolor pattern. This is the dress for you if you want something feminine but edgy.
