Another excellent resource for DNA testing is 23andMe. It is based in Mountain View, California. It is a privately held personal genomics and biotechnology enterprise. This corporation is called after the normal human cell's 23 chromosomes. In 2007, 23andMe was the first firm to offer autosomal DNA testing for ancestry, which is now widely utilized. Time magazine awarded their saliva-based direct-to-consumer genetic testing firm "Invention of the Year" in 2008.

Customers supply a saliva test sample that is partly single nucleotide polymorphism genotyped for DNA testing, and the findings are presented online. Of the 10 to 30 million variations found in the complete genome, tens of thousands are examined. These matches are collated into a report that is sent to the user, allowing them to determine whether their variations correspond with specific diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and so on.

Customers who purchase ancestry-related tests get access to genealogical DNA test results and resources, including a relative-matching database, online. 23andMe is mostly utilized by donor-conceived individuals to locate biological relatives and egg or sperm donors.
