DNA Heritage
DNA Heritage was an English commercial genetic genealogy firm situated in Weymouth, Dorset. In October 2003, the business began offering Y-chromosome testing. The testing was first halted until laboratory issues were resolved. In March 2004, testing continued. The Sorenson Genomics laboratory, a subsidiary of the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, was utilized by the corporation for Y-chromosomal DNA (Y-DNA) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) testing. Marlin Bioscience Laboratories performed the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) testing for deep ancestry.
In April 2011, Family Tree DNA purchased DNA Heritage. Customers were given the opportunity of transmitting their Y-DNA findings for free to the Family Tree DNA database. In the FTDNA database, results from DNA Heritage clients are prefaced with the letter H. Only the first 25 markers' results are included. Former clients are then offered the option to update their markers for a minimal fee in order to have their findings compatible with FTDNA's standard 37-marker test. Y-base, a publicly searchable database of Y-chromosome haplotypes, was also supported by DNA Heritage. In April 2011, Family Tree DNA purchased this site as well. What is intended for the data in Y-base is unknown at this time. The website has been redirected to an FTDNA landing page. This is one of the best DNA testing companies.
