A Korean Odyssey (2017)

A Korean Odyssey is a South Korean fantasy television series starring Lee Seung-gi, Cha Seung-won, Oh Yeon-seo, Lee Hong-gi, and Jang Gwang. Written by the Hong sisters, the drama is a modern spin-off of the Chinese classic 16th-century novel Journey to the West. Lee Seung-gi plays Son Oh-gong the Great Sage Equal to Heaven (based on Sun Wukong), an extraordinarily powerful immortal who was banished to the human world and had his abilities locked owing to his mischievous and arrogant personality. Jin Seon-mi is his true love. He possesses several abilities, including pyrokinesis, levitation, telekinesis, and body imprisonment.

Son Oh Gong and Ma Wang are at odds in 2017 as they seek a real light in a dark world where evil abounds. The two meet again in a fatal meeting after making a deal with Seon Mi 25 years ago, entitling her to seek aid from Son Oh Gong anytime she summons him in return for letting him go. Son Oh Gong is thus committed to his protecting position towards Seon Mi, the little girl he met years ago.
