The Princess and the Matchmaker (2018)
Hong Chang-pyo directed the 2018 South Korean historical romance comedy-drama film The Princess and the Matchmaker. Shim Eun-kyung, Lee Seung-gi, Kim Sang-kyung, Yeon Woo-jin, Kang Min-hyuk, Choi Woo-shik, and Jo Bok-rae feature in the film. The film relates the story of Seo Do-yoon, a saju specialist who was given an order from the King to assist him to choose a mate for his daughter, Princess Song-hwa, depending on their fate. It is the second edition of Jupiter Film's three-part film project on Korean fortune-telling customs, following The Face Reader in 2013 and Feng Shui later that year.
After a lengthy period of famine, the palace arranges Princess Song Hwa's marriage in an attempt to right the cosmic wrong. Do Yoon, a renowned diviner is hired to discover the right partner who would have the finest marital harmony with the princess. Four potential husbands with various astrological signs are chosen from people all throughout the country. The princess, on the other hand, refuses to believe that her life mate will be picked entirely based on fortune reading and resolves to interview the contenders herself before making a final selection. Do Yoon discovers this when she escapes out of the palace and pursues her.
