A Very Secret Service
A Very Secret Service (French: Au service de la France) is a French comedy-drama series created by Jean-François Halin and produced by Gilles de Verdière. This surprisingly gentle but addictive comedy about a fictional French spy service on the verge of the Cold War is a delightful, bureaucratic historical piece with genuine humor and laughter.
André Merlaux accepts a cryptic summons to join the French Secret Services as a trainee officer in 1960. Mose, the operations director, will keep an eye on him, while senior colleagues Moulinier (in charge of African relations), Jacquard (Algeria), and Calot will unwillingly coach him (Eastern Bloc). The film is set at the height of the Cold War, and France's position as a Great Power is in jeopardy, with independence challenges from French West African possessions, most notably the battle for Algerian independence.
