Ancient City Of Pula
The tourist destination of Istria is extremely popular. There are several explanations for this. Its natural beauty, history, sea, and proximity to Central Europe are all reasons to visit. Split and Dubrovnik are much further away. The ancient city of Pula is, of course, at the heart of this region. Why do I use the term "ancient"? For starters, Pula is home to a massive Roman amphitheater! And, believe it or not, they still use it in the same way they did in the past. They put on gladiator battles!
Those battles, of course, have a much happier outcome than in Roman times. However, the "Spectacvli Antiqvi" manifestation is still very popular and shows a glimpse of the Roman Empire. This amphitheater (Pula Arena) also serves as a venue for a variety of other performances and events. There is also a prestigious Croatian film festival held there. It even hosted a hockey game on one occasion!
Pula is close to the Brijuni Islands, a well-known national park. Marshall Tito, the former leader of Yugoslavia, built a zoo on the islands. It was, in some ways, his summer home, but it is now a tourist attraction and a venue for numerous gatherings and conferences. But, in addition to being a great place to visit in the summer, Pula and the surrounding area are also lovely in the winter.
