Arthdal Chronicles (2019)
Arthdal Chronicles is a 2019 South Korean television series directed by Kim Won-seok and written by Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-yeon, produced by Studio Dragon and KPJ, and starring Jang Dong-gun, Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won, and Kim Ok-vin. The plot takes place during the Bronze Age and is partially based on the story of Dangun, the founder of the first Korean Kingdom of Gojoseon. It is regarded as the first Korean ancient fantasy drama.
The drama serves as a reunion project for Song Joong-ki and Kim Ji-won who both starred in the 2016 hit drama Descendants of the Sun. In February 2022, it was announced that 2nd season is expected to release in early 2023 along with a webtoon and an MMORPG. Following Parts I and II, Ta Gon has achieved his goal and now sits atop his throne. However, his life and kingship are now in jeopardy as Eun Seom begins to build strength among Arth's slaves and peasants as he begins to fight back against the elite. Although Ta Gon has kept his half-Neanthal origin hidden from the rest of the world, his eyes glow purple as he prepares to go all out against Eun Seom. Meanwhile, Taealha is threatened with assassination by a mysterious foe, while Tanya (Ji Won) struggles to acclimate to her newfound authority in Arthdal.
