Gap Dong (2014)
Gap-dong is a South Korean television series that premiered in 2014 and starred Yoon Sang-hyun, Sung Dong-il, Kim Min-jung, Kim Ji-won, and Lee Joon. From April 11 to June 14, 2014, it broadcast 20 episodes on the cable channel tvN on Fridays and Saturdays at 20:40 (KST).
In 1986, in the (fictitious) city of Iltan in Gyeonggi Province, a young girl is brutally killed on a dark night by an unknown individual. As the city is seized by a series of serial killings, a total of nine deaths inside a twelve-kilometer radius since 1993, authorities assume that a guy they've dubbed "Gap-dong" is responsible. Detective Yang Cheol-gon is persuaded that the true murderer is Ha Il-sik, a mentally handicapped local inhabitant. His attempt to apprehend the suspect fails and Ha kills himself to show his innocence. His son Moo-yeom is inspired by his father's death to become a police officer in order to clear his father's name and restore his dignity.
Moo-yeom is now a police detective who spends his days tracking down leads and assisting juvenile delinquents. After the statute of limitations on the case ends, Moo-yeom accepts that Gap-dong is no longer alive. However, a sequence of incidences in town has an uncanny resemblance to Gap atrocities. Cheol-gon, now a distinguished cop, has lately returned to Iltan, and to his dismay, Moo-yeom joins his investigative team to finally apprehend Gap-dong.
