PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero), Tbk was initially founded in Indonesia as a central Bank under the name of "Bank Negara Indonesia" based on Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 1946 dated July 5, 1946. Currently, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia controls 60% of BNI shares. The remaining percent of domestic and foreign ownership is held by the public, which includes both individuals and government agencies.
According to total assets, total loans, and total third-party funds, BNI is presently the fourth-largest national bank in Indonesia. This ranking is based on total assets.
