Bank Rakyat Indonesia

One of the largest financial institutions in Indonesia is the PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, also known simply as BRI. Its name literally translates to "Indonesian People's Bank". It has about 8,600 branches, units, and rural service posts around the country, and its primary focus is on providing small-scale and microfinance-style borrowing and lending services to its nearly 30 million retail customers. In addition to that, it operates quite a small but rapidly expanding corporate business. It was the second-largest bank in Indonesia in terms of assets as of the year 2022.

Since its founding in 1895, BRI has had the honor of being Indonesia's oldest bank. It has been held by the government at all times from the time of the fight for independence (1945 to 1949) until November 2003, when 30% of its shares were sold through an initial public offering (IPO). At the present time, the government owns 53% of the operational corporation known as Persero.
