Bloom & Plume Coffee

Bloom & Plume, which straddles Historic Filipinotown and Echo Park, serves as a meeting place for both areas as well as surrounding communities. The Black-owned, Black-uplifting café promotes Blackness, diversity, and community through its artwork, partnerships, and overall mission of proving the South African principle of ubuntu, which translates as "I am, because you are" and denotes that everyone and everything is interconnected in a sense of community. In addition, it offers dependable and brilliant espresso, matcha, and chai concoctions, as well as toasts, lemonades, and floral arrangements to make your day happier.

This stunning, intensely purple cafe is located on Temple Street, midway between Echo Park and Downtown Los Angeles, and that's exactly the goal. Owner Maurice Harris, whose renowned flower studio of the same name is right next door, is responsible for the cafe's aesthetic. The cafe adopts a vibrant color scheme to create a type of flower-wonderland maximalism in "Bloom & Plume," which was inspired by his grandmother, a talented milliner, and makes reference to the flowers and feathers that graced her crafts. Purple, gold, orange, green, and black are used as accent colors. The area is covered in designs, textures, and pictures inspired by black culture. A neon installation of a Black Power fist holding a flower hangs on the wall outside, and there are flower arrangements all over the place. The tables are gold.
