Brezl Gwölb

Brezl Gwölb, tucked away in a back alley near Freyung, has a devoted following thanks to its delectably fresh Austrian home cooking. The crypt-like cellar, lit by candles and playing classical music in the background, transports you back in time with its carvings, brick arches, wrought-iron lights, and alcoves. It's no surprise that the place is packed with regulars.

The Brezl (pretzels) here are exactly as they should be - chewy, fluffy, and fresh from the oven, as the name says. Warming foods like beef soup with noodles, schnitzel, and cheesy Pinzgauer Kasnocken dumplings are paired with excellent Lower Austrian wines.
