Canturi's Barbie
Stefano Canturi, an Australian jewelry designer, debuted the world's most expensive Barbie doll in 2010, which sold at auction for $302,500. Stefano Canturi was commissioned by Mattel to create a limited edition doll dressed up in high-quality bling to commemorate the Barbie Basics collection in Australia. Mattel commissioned Canturi to create a Barbie that would become the brand's most expensive doll.
Canturi spent six months designing the luxury Barbie, who wears a spectacular diamond collar necklace. The centerpiece of the necklace is a 1.00 carat cut-cornered modified square-cut fancy bright purple-pink diamond. Canturi's Barbie is also decked with 3-carat white diamonds. Christie's in New York auctioned it off for $302,000 dollars. Profits were provided to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in full, as promised.
Canturi's Barbie also wears a diamond ring. Mattel gave Canturi complete creative control over the Barbie doll. Canturi chose to apply sophisticated makeup to the doll, complete with artificial lashes. The doll is dressed in a simple black evening gown to highlight the gems.
