  1. Stefano Canturi, an Australian jewelry designer, debuted the world's most expensive Barbie doll in 2010, which sold at auction for $302,500. Stefano Canturi was commissioned by Mattel to create a limited edition doll dressed up in high-quality bling to commemorate the Barbie Basics collection in Australia. Mattel commissioned Canturi to create a Barbie that would become the brand's most expensive doll.

Canturi spent six months designing the luxury Barbie, who wears a spectacular diamond collar necklace. The centerpiece of the necklace is a 1.00 carat cut-cornered modified square-cut fancy bright purple-pink diamond. Canturi's Barbie is also decked with 3-carat white diamonds. Christie's in New York auctioned it off for $302,000 dollars. Profits were provided to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in full, as promised.

Canturi's Barbie also wears a diamond ring. Mattel gave Canturi complete creative control over the Barbie doll. Canturi chose to apply sophisticated makeup to the doll, complete with artificial lashes. The doll is dressed in a simple black evening gown to highlight the gems.

  2. Mattel launched a doll of the same name as a promotional tactic to commemorate the animated film "Barbie and the Diamond Castle" in 2008. While the film went directly to video, the doll is still on everyone's want list.

The doll's pink outfit was adorned with 318 diamonds valued at $94,800, fitting for her diamond castle abode. The Barbie and the Diamond Castle wore a tiara, slippers, earrings, necklace, bracelet, and ring all fashioned of white gold and set with real diamonds. The Barbie dress was additionally adorned with 44 round-cut stones totaling 20.66 carats.

Mattel's Barbie subsidiary in Mexico unveiled a Barbie for one million pesos, or approximately $95,000 at the time, in 2008. The Barbie was based on the main figure from the film "Barbie and the Diamond Castle," which was released that year.

The Barbie and the Diamond Castle doll was solely produced for publicity purposes and was never sold. The doll's worth is determined by the value of the gems she is wearing.

  3. The De Beers 40th Anniversary Barbie is an ultra-rare version created through a collaboration between Mattel, the doll's creator, and the famed De Beers jewelry retailer. They collaborated to construct this exquisite Barbie doll to commemorate the Barbie doll's 40th anniversary in 1999.

The De Beers 40th Anniversary Barbie cost $85,000 and was adorned with De Beers diamonds. For this premium edition of the 40th anniversary Barbie, De Beers went with a seductive aesthetic.

The doll is dressed scantily and wearing a gold and diamond bikini top. She also has black hair rather than the conventional blonde of Barbie. This doll is wearing a belt with 160 diamonds from the big-name jewel manufacturer, as well as a full-length sheer skirt, gold bikini top, and matching tangerine wrap. Given the complexities of her dress alone, it's no surprise that the extravagant doll fetched $85,000 at auction, according to The Christian Science Monitor.

  4. Barbie first appeared in 1959, and any original Barbie doll is highly valuable. Of course, the condition of an Original 1959 Barbie affects her value. Even an Original 1959 Barbie in poor condition might sell for a few hundred dollars. On the other hand, any original Barbie in mint condition with all of her original accessories and even her box can sell for more than $25,000.

When buying or selling an original Barbie, check for a "Made in Japan" stamp on the bottom of one foot, separated fingers rather than the joined fingers found on most Barbies, "Barbie" stamped on one hip, and a high ponytail style.

The first Barbie was available in blonde or brunette form, clothed in a Hollywood-style bathing suit with dramatic red lips and thick black eyeliner — and approximately 350,000 were sold for a startling $3 each in that first year.

According to The Richest, the only way to tell if a doll is a genuine first edition is to look at the doll's feet, which have holes in the bottom. The second edition, which was essentially the same as the first but without the holes, was released the following year.

While this Barbie is about $8,000, a flawless condition doll recently sold at auction for $27,450.

  10. Because the City Smart Silkstone Barbie was released in 2003, there isn't much information available about her. Only 600 City Smart Barbies were made, with 400 going to the Japanese market and the remaining 200 going to members of the Official Barbie Collector's Club in the United States. Because Barbie enthusiasts rarely part with limited edition dolls, City Smart Silkstone Barbie often sells for a few thousand dollars.

According to their official website, the City Smart Silkstone Barbie doll was designed to exude "an air of cool refinement" when it debuted in 2003. And it did it with this Barbie's refined and trendy appearance.

This is not only another Barbie doll made by Robert Best, but it is also a Silkstone Barbie doll, which we all know is a fantastic and special quality to have. This could explain why it sells for roughly $3,000, as well as the fact that there are only 600 in the world.

City Smart Silkstone Barbie was released in 2000, and the name comes from the fact that they are composed of an extremely hard plastic that is meant to resemble porcelain. Silkstone Barbies are popular among collectors due to their retro design.
