Carnaval was unaffected by the pandemic. During the lockdown, Aaron Diaz, the brains behind the only Peruvian bar to ever make it into The World's 50 Best Bars, devised a new way to deliver his bar magic: a cocktail box with all the components needed to make drinks at home (ice included). Cocktails that evolved as alcohol combined with odd citric and roots were entertaining and participatory.
Delicate decorations include a haba tonka marshmallow and a toronja wedge dipped in white chocolate. Now the Carnaval team (Diaz, Ral Arcayo, the amazing ice chef who can design 20 types and shapes of ice, and Jota Benitez, the wise man of artisan pisco) can reimagine what it is like to have customers at their bar, a place full of magic and art: the Coctelera Conceptual movement's unique creations in craft glasses and dishes designed by contemporary Peruvian artists.
