Castelroc

Castelroc is a family-run restaurant in Monaco's ancient old town that has been in the Bonafede family for nearly 60 years. Traditional Monegasque food is served, as well as Mediterranean-inspired meals from both land and sea. Their terrace, with views of Monaco's pine tree tops, is the outstanding highlight. The set menus begin at €48.

When you've feasted with Monegasques two or three times and learned about "Pastu e Furra" (meals and feasts), you'll realize how much they enjoy fine food. It's one of their little known secrets. "With bread and wine, you can invite your neighbor - cun de pan e de vin se po invita u vizin," they say at home.

They've been importing kitchen goods from friends in Nice, Corsica, and Italy for decades. Everyone knows they don't fish for cod off the coast of Fontvieille, but as my neighbor, Madame Testa, put it, their stockfish preparation is unrivaled... Cooking is similar to life: they have been given life, but it is up to us to adapt to their art of cooking.
