Catedral de Puebla
The Catedral de Puebla is a Roman Catholic church in the historic centre. It is the see of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Puebla de Los Angeles and is a historic cathedral. The Immaculate Conception is the patron saint of the church. The Catedral de Puebla Church is located in the beautiful town of Puebla. The building has existed for more than 70 years and is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Mexico.
Every year, the Catedral de Puebla church attracts thousands of visitors to admire the impressive collection of paintings and sculptures inside.
The Catedral de Puebla had a long and illustrious musical legacy that dated back to the late 16th century. Juan Gutierrez De Padilla, who served as chapel master from 1629 to 1664, was one of the most talented musicians. He composed polychoral masses as well as villancicos, which were long and complicated compositions (for the Christmas season). In Tocotines (influenced by the Nahuas), negrillos, and porto Ricos, his music reveals the non-white populace of New Spain (African influence). His choir books are still in existence at the cathedral. One of the greatest contributions to American music history is his villancicos.
