Saint Louis Cathedral - New Orleans

The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, generally known as Saint Louis Cathedral, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans and the United States' oldest church in continuous use. It is dedicated to King Louis IX of France, often known as Saint Louis.

St. Louis Cathedral is one of the French Quarter's tallest and most imposing landmarks. It's a local and international architectural symbol that's been featured in hundreds of movies, TV shows, and other visual presentations.

, as the mother church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, has a rich and intriguing history. It is the United States' oldest continually operating Roman Catholic Cathedral. The first church built on the site was constructed in 1718 and, over the course of the next 70 years, was expanded upon. During the Great Fire of 1794, the ancient St. Louis Cathedral was destroyed and rebuilt. The current construction dates from the 1850s.
