Ceres was founded in 1989 by then-President of Trillium Asset Management, Joan Bavaria, in partnership with leading environmental activists to change corporate environmental practices. She named the organization the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economics (CERES).


CERES works with more than 80 companies and 130 member organizations, from automakers to financial services providers (one-third of Fortune 500 companies) to promote sustainable business practices and solutions. In 2003, Ceres launched the Investor Climate Risk Network (INCR), a network of top 100 investors jointly managing more than $11 trillion in assets.
