Heifer International
Heifer International (also known as Heifer Project International) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to ending poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based, holistic community development. Together with agriculture and values-based education, Heifer International distributes animals to needy families around the world as a means of self-reliance. Beneficiaries must agree to “pass the gift” by donating animal offspring and sharing their skills and knowledge in animal husbandry and agricultural education with other poor families in the community.
Headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, Heifer International began shipping 17 cows to Puerto Rico in 1944. Since 1944, Heifer International has been distributing livestock such as goats, bees and buffalo along with training and other resources. , up to 20.7 million families or more than 105.1 million people in more than 125 countries worldwide.
