Chengtian Temple

Chengtian Temple has a long and rich history that dates back to the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It was originally the south garden of Liu Congxiao, a local ruler of Quanzhou, who later donated it to the Buddhist monks. The temple was named Chengtian, meaning "bearing heaven", by Emperor Zhenzong of the Song dynasty in 1007.


Chengtian Temple is considered one of the Three Great Buddhist Temples in Quanzhou. The temple has a magnificent architecture that reflects the Chinese style and culture. Inside Chengtian Temple, there is a paved path that leads to various halls and pagodas.


The main buildings along the central axis are Tianwang Hall, where the statues of the Four Heavenly Kings are enshrined; Mi Le Hall, where the statue of Maitreya Buddha is placed; Mahavira Hall, where the statues of Sakyamuni Buddha and his disciples are worshipped; Dharma Hall, where the scriptures are stored; and Wenshu Hall, where the statue of Manjusri Bodhisattva is venerated.
