Wannian Temple

Wannian Temple is located at the foot of Mount Emei, the Wannian Temple has a history of over 1600 years and is dedicated to the bodhisattva Samantabhadra, who is believed to be the protector of the mountain. Wannian Temple is well known for its three valuable treasures: the Beamless Brick Hall, the bronze statue of Samantabhadra, and the Tooth of Buddha.


The Beamless Brick Hall is a unique architectural masterpiece that was built without any wooden beams or nails. It has a dome roof and a square floor, symbolizing the heaven and the earth. Inside the hall, you can admire the magnificent statue of Samantabhadra riding on a white elephant. The statue is 8.5 meters high and weighs 62 tons. It was cast in 980 AD.


The temple is the tooth relic of Buddha, which is said to be one of the eight teeth that remained after Buddha's cremation. The tooth is 3.2 cm long and weighs 6.5 kg. It was brought to China by a monk from Sri Lanka in the Ming dynasty.


Wannian Temple also has a mysterious feature that adds to its charm: the instrument-playing frogs. According to legend, there is a special kind of small frog in the pond near the temple, and every evening, they produce pleasant sounds that resemble musical instruments. Some people believe that they are the reincarnations of monks who used to play music in the temple.
