Comptoir Rodin
The Comptoir Rodin begins on the street, with the discovery of the building that houses this restaurant. It's the Pavillon Rodin, which was built between 1882 and 1888 and is the last surviving part of the former Brussels Military Hospital. With beautiful red bricks and many windows, its facade is intimidating and imposing. Once the entrance door is closed, one comes face to face with Rodin's Penseur, who is trôning, concentrating, in the center of the entrance.
Visitors to this hidden canteen, which was originally a military hospital, are greeted by a miniature bronze reproduction of Rodin's The Thinker. Comptoir Rodin and its verandah, remodeled with sleek concrete flooring, exposed brick walls, and mismatched furniture, serve lunches worth pondering - try the aubergine toast or the meatball bowls. There are several vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
