Tony Hsieh joined Zappos in 1999 as an advisor and investor, just two months after the company was launched. He finally became a full-time employee of Zappos in 2000. Under his leadership, Zappos increased its gross merchandise sales from $1.6 million in 2000 to more than $1 billion in 2008.
