The watch company is named after an American city, Detroit is the largest city in the midwestern state of Michigan. The company was founded in 2013, their vision is simple—offer timeless design together with high-quality Swiss mechanical movements, each timepiece is hand-assembled and regulated in Michigan USA studio.

For the past 17 years, Detroit has been developing and designing original timepieces for various watch brands complementing their passion for designing over the past 35 years. Their vision is to create a watch brand like no other, bringing together Detroit's affection for design, love of timepieces, and their esteem for the city of Detroit as founded by a Frenchman, Antoine de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac.

Detroit creates each component of watches after selecting a certain movement, and every component, including the case, dial, hands, and crowns, are unique. Sketches and technical drawings are supplied straight to their component specialists for manufacture. The automated movements are cased and all components are installed and checked by their employee when they get the appropriate components for Detroits' collection. This procedure gives them total control over quality and manufacturing. As a result, Detroit's collection will always be limited to a certain number of pieces each year. This also allows them to produce limited-edition timepieces in the future.
