Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Dinner is one of the world's most recognized restaurants, inspired by Heston Blumenthal's passion for historic gastronomy. Dinner was devised in the late 1990s as a result of Heston's love with late-nineteenth-century savory ice creams, the Tudor dining experience, and the meals featured in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Heston discovered that his love of food is not a modern phenomenon via working with food historians and the crew at Hampton Court Palace, as well as reading cookbooks such as those by King Richard II's royal chefs. Dinner's exhilarating menu is the consequence of this perfect fusion of the past and the present in a particularly engaging manner.

The restaurant's décor is contemporary and imaginative, while remaining respectful of heritage, and serves as a great backdrop for the menu. Diners can see the kitchen and its unusual pulley system, which was inspired by a version used by the Royal Court and spins the spit over an open fire, through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The ivory-painted walls are accented by custom-made porcelain wall sconces in the shape of old jelly molds, and the continuous vistas of Hyde Park, King Henry VIII's former hunting grounds, complete the historical connection.
